Apple Picking at Fishkill Farms in New York

I guess you could say this isn’t our typical adventure we document on this website, however we had a blast and it was quite the beautiful area for apple picking in Fishkill Farms!

Fishkill Farms is located east of the town of Fishkill, NY just south of I84. If you head over to the farm at the right time of year, you won’t know what to do with all the apples you can pick!

Fishkill Farms 1LET THE PICKING BEGIN!

One you arrive at the farm you are greeted by rolling hills with rows upon rows of apples…and wow the beautiful mountains surrounding the area. Deanna, Blaze, and I visited the area mid-September with Deanna’s parents.

It turned out to be surprisingly warm in the upper 80s, so Blaze ended up chilling in the shade most of the trip to cool off. In the picture above you can see clouds off in the distance, but it took them FOREVER to arrive and provide any shade from the toasty day.

Fishkill Farms 2YEA, IT WAS HOT

Minus the less than optimal apple-picking temperature, we had a blast walking around and picking the many varieties of apples Fishkill Farm had to offer. This was the very beginning of the season, so not all, but many of the apples were ripe for the picking.

I believe according to the map there were 8 varieties we could choose from on our visit and they offer 13 different varieties overall at the farm.

Fishkill Farms 3MAZE OF SWEET HAPPINESS

It isn’t quite a labyrinth, but it is sort of a maze of sweet happiness as you go around picking your most favorite apples from the tree. There is something so much more satisfying picking the fruit directly from the tree rather than in any marketplace.

They offer some varieties of apples that are completely organic/natural and some of them are GMO. I must say that every single one of the apples that we bought from the farm were very delicious. 🙂

HOW TO GET AROUND

Most of the farm you can take your vehicle around the designated roads and park where needed. We obviously enjoy the hiking aspect of the adventure as well and chose to walk most of the way around the farm. You can also take the hayrides around that pretty much work like public transportation in the farm.

The pictures I took on my phone for the blog post are just a taste of the views you get while visiting. You really should check out this farm when you are in the area for yourself.

ACTIVITIES AT THE FARM

Although I didn’t take an individual photos of it to show you, if you check out the video at the top of this post you will see they also offer many activities throughout the farm. There are hayrides for the kids, a corn maze,  live music, and also shops where you can buy other tasty treats!

While I was there I even tried some of the hard cider they had for sale under a tent. It was very tasty, although a bit on the expensive side for the portion size you get. Be prepared to spend a bit of money on top of the entrance fee to the park. I’ll link their website here so you can get the latest information regarding the prices and which apples are available.

MORE THAN JUST APPLES!?

Not only do they have apples at this park, but they do have their own chickens, sheep, and a decent sized vegetable garden as well. I definitely recommend taking a stroll back behind the shops near the entrance and just stare off into the distance over the farm. They picked a perfect serene spot in nature to plant their many trees.
