Amenities:

While staying at St. Bernard State Park we had partial hookups including water and electric (30/50 amp connections).  The spots were fairly large and we saw many decent sized 5th wheels and class As fitting into these campsites although it was a bit tighter for bigger rigs. Our 30 ft 5th wheel and F250 short bed truck just barely fit completely in our site (site 28).

There aren’t a ton of amenities as far as a campground goes at this park, but it does have the essentials. There is a slightly dated bathhouse that was relatively clean while we stayed at the campground. Due to the fact that it was partial hookups at the site, we did use the bathhouse to shower in.

As I mentioned in the video at the top of the post, there is a laundry facility located within the bathhouse, but at the time the dryers were not working very well. The washers worked perfect, just ended up having to hang up my clothes outside our campsite which is usually frowned upon but had no choice.

There is a swimming pool here although we never checked it out, so I can say how clean or well maintained it was. There is also a day visit area where you can go check out that has picnic spots as well as a playground/splash park area.

Water Drainage

It was still a little muddy at this park since the same weather system that hit Buccaneer State Park came through this area. However, most of the campsites were only damp and not flooded. There were a few exceptions, but there were always a few empty sites so people could avoid the flooded areas.

Discounts:

None that I am aware of, but I’ve been wrong before!

Noise Level:

It was extremely quiet at this campground. There is a train that passes through nearby, but it honestly wasn’t too bad. It wasn’t RIGHT next to the campground but you can definitely hear its horn as it is coming through the area.

Dog Friendly?

Yes. Plenty of dogs throughout this campground and Blaze had a blast hiking through the muddy trail with us.

Big Rig Friendly?

As I mentioned in the amenities section, we barely fit into our campsite with a 30ft 5th wheel and our truck lined up. If you parked the truck sideways (and had enough room to do so) I’m sure you could fit a slightly bigger rig. The site sizes do vary, so be sure to check out their website (links included at the top of this blog post).

Also note that behind each of these sites is post going perpendicular to the site so you can’t have your rig hang over the rear end of the campsite. This is there to protect the electric and water hookups located behind your rig.

Cell Signal and Wifi:

If you are digital nomads like we are, cell signal is crucial. Verizon actually ended up being the strongest signal we had at this campground. Deanna was still able to work off of AT&T but I ended up flipping back and forth between campground wifi and my cellphone (using Verizon) to avoid maxing out our AT&T connection.

Things to Do in the Area:

Just like Buccaneer State Park in Mississippi, this park really isn’t known for all of its hiking trails. There was one nature trail taking you around the park to take a glimpse at the swampy surroundings, but that was it.

The main reason we went to St. Bernard State Park was the price and the relatively close proximity to New Orleans. Deanna had never been to New Orleans before so we definitely had to hit up the French Quarter to observe that sweet architecture.

We didn’t go to it ourselves, but there are also various plantations in the nearby area you can go check out while staying at St Bernard State Park as well. Most of them are on the west side of New Orleans however so it wouldn’t be a quick jaunt. Turns out there aren’t a ton of bridges going across the Mississippi River.
