Exploring Lake Louisa State Park in Central Florida

Exploring Lake Louisa State Park in Central Florida

Lake Lousia State Park was our VERY first hiking exploration in the state of Florida. It may have taken us about 3 weeks to finally get out and explore due to our new RV purchase, but so glad this was our first spot!

As you can see in the photos above, this truly is a tropical environment. Unlike our swamp hike in Georgia’s Grand Bay Wildlife Area, this was FULL of ground vegetation and definitely provided a unique experience.

INFO REGARDING THE AREA

Here is a link to Florida’s Lake Louisa State Park Website -> https://www.floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/lake-louisa-state-park

Want to camp here? Here is a link to reserve america for the campground! -> https://www.reserveamerica.com/explore/lake-louisa-state-park/FL/281108/overview

In order to get into this park there is a small $5 fee per vehicle. To us, that is a decent price considering all the unique hiking we were able to experience at this state park. No, this park isn’t full of mountains, rolling hills, or epic water features, but it does have a unique landscape unique to Florida.

There are alligators at Lake Louisa State Park so just be aware of your surroundings and definitely keep an eye on your pets.

TRAILS

Lake Louis State Park Trail Map -> https://www.floridastateparks.org/sites/default/files/media/file/TrailMap.pdf

The trails we took in our video located at the top of this blog post were very flat, easy, and well marked.  If you want to follow the same paths we did, head in the park and take the first road (not parking lot) on the right. From there you’ll want to head to the 2nd parking area you find on your right hand side.

When looking at the map, we took a trail loop starting at point #28, through #31, to #33, all the back around down to #28. Note that this doesn’t offer any views of the lake, but there are some beautiful ponds along this route…along with some random orange trees that we avoided eating. It was hard.

LAKE LOUISA

You didn’t think we would go to a park called Lake Louisa State Park and not hit up the lake did ya? It wasn’t QUITE warm enough to actually hop into the water on this January hike, but it certainly didn’t take away from that gorgeous view! I believe you are allowed to take kayaks out here for a stroll. But DO watch out for gators/snakes that are native to the area.

DOG FRIENDLY?

Yes, did you watch the video at the top of the post? If not, you should totally go do that. 🙂
