Exploring Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park in Florida

Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park was first just a nearby state park to check out whilst visiting Tampa, FL, but it turned out to be pretty sweet!

COST

So guys, this park is only $3 to get in. With that $3 you get to explore some awesome relaxing trails and enjoy some different sweet salt springs!

I couldn’t find any trail map to share with you all from the state park website, but it is fairly easy to navigate around this park. Just stick to the marked trails and you will do just fine.

SPRINGS

There are around 5-6 different springs you can go visit while hiking through the park. The funniest named spring would have to be the toilet bowl springs. No it doesn’t stink, but it does have a swirl motion to the water that does indeed act like a toilet bowl. 🙂

ALLIGATORS!?

Yes, there are signs throughout Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park to watch out for Alligators, but we never did see any while hiking around. I imagine if you walk through the area in all seasons but winter, your chances go quite a bit up for seeing one.

FLAT BUT PRETTY

Although just like most Florida trails this area is completely flat with really no elevation gain whatsoever, it is very beautiful with a bunch of unique vegetation to the area. On top of the different springs marked on the trail map (you can pick up once you get to the parking lot), there are other water features looking towards the Gulf of Mexico.

There aren’t any wide open views of the Gulf at this park due to the fact there is still about a mile of marshy lands between the state park and the Gulf of Mexico. However, there are some kayaks you can rent to go paddle out through the marshy area and explore the unique landscapes this park offers.

WOULD WE RECOMMEND?

For sure, we would recommend checking out this state park. You won’t have your hearts racing with anticipation around each turn looking for epic views, but it is still a beautiful area to take a stroll and enjoy nature.

If you are in the Tampa area and want to get away from the city life, definitely head up a little north to this beautiful and relatively cheap state park! It is an easy drive and you get to enjoy some peace and quiet from the normal hustle and bustle of your daily lives!
