Exploring Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan

We got ourselves another fun adventure from the upper peninsula in northern Michigan at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore to share with you all! Although there are some hiking trails along the shoreline, we decided to use our two feet to hop on over to a boat for this journey. 🙂

EPIC PHOTOS EVERYWHERE!

Not going to lie folks, Deanna went all out with pictures on this adventure. I’ll throw a few captions here and there, but I think the pictures pretty much speak for themselves out this location (launched from the north side of Munising from Pictured Rocks Cruises).

The great thing about using this group is that they really do go into the history involved with the rock formations as well as the huge Lake Superior itself.

TAKE A KAYAK TOUR!

There was a surprising amount of people on kayaks and scattered throughout the rock formations as we went along the rock face during our tour. Not surprising as in the interest in the rock formations, but how many people you could actually plot on the side of those shorter reaching rocks haha.

DUDE HAS SKILLS

One of my favorite parts of this adventure was related to the photos above. They actually took this fairly large cruise boat and squeezed it in this small inlet.

The guy made a joke that they don’t normally let him do this but was planning on quitting anyways…or something of that nature. They did have quite the sense of humor on the tour which kept us entertained beyond just the beautiful sites.

PRO TIP* If you want to see the rocks whilst the dude is chatting about the history of each piece of rock, make sure you sit on the right side of the boat as you get on. It may be obvious, but the right side will be facing the rocks first and the tour guides don’t talk nearly as much on the way back southwest.

CAN’T STOP STARING AT SHORELINE

See, I really wasn’t kidding about Deanna going wild on the camera. I actually had a bit of a battle trying to get past her to get the video footage lol. The gal likes to take some photos, what can I say.

WHAT AN AMAZING TOUR!

There really are so many beautiful and unique faces of rock along the entire tour. Don’t worry though if you are stuck on the other side of the boat, as they do turn you around and let you see it all once more.

If you want hang in the back of the boat you can stand and get a great view, but may lose whatever seat you originally chose once you hopped on.

ARCH AT PICTURED ROCKS NATIONAL LAKESHORE

In the photos above you can make out the iconic arch that a lot of people hop on this tour for. If you want, you can actually go on some kayak tours as well where you can paddle underneath the natural archway itself! If we ever come back to this area, I think I would want to mark that off the bucket list.

SUMMARY

To sum this adventure up. If you are debating on whether or not the money you spend on tickets whether they be for the boat tour, kayak tour, or if they happen to have helicopters…do it. Do it all.

It is such an awesome an unique experience we will definitely do it again at some point in our lives. Enjoy life all, we only live once. See what you want to see and do what you want to do (within reason haha).
