Not only does Mammoth Cave National Park have some awesome trails, but they are also dog friendly! Well, for the most part. There are some grated stairways throughout the park I would definitely try to avoid taking your dog up and down. Especially if your dog has smaller feet and can step between the grates themselves.

Domes and Dripstones Tour – Mammoth Cave National Park

The Domes and Dripstones  Cave Tour is not really meant for anyone that is out of shape. Yes for sure they have rails and it is completely walkable, but there is quite a bit of elevation gain to contend with and sometimes slippery conditions. With that being said, this is a must if you head to Mammoth Cave National Park. We were only able to hit up a couple tours while visiting, but this one alone made it worth it.

The lighting does make it a bit tricky to get some photos down beneath the earth, but they do have some different lighted areas that you can go crazy on. Especially towards the end of this particular tour.

Historic Cave Tour – Mammoth Cave National Park

If you get to Mammoth Cave National Park and realize all the candle light tours are already taken, well don’t you worry. The Historic Cave Tour takes you down many of the same paths and we had a blast! As with the same disclaimer of the Domes and Dripstones tour, this does take a bit of energy to get through and well…watch your head!

As many of you probably already know, Mammoth Cave National Park is the LONGEST cave currently in the world! The historic entrance is the largest entrance you can take to get into the cave system. However, there are a ton of other entrances through the park that buses escort you to after buying different tour tickets.

This was the first cave both Deanna and I were able to go into with each other. I think we’ve found that we really enjoyed it and will be visiting many more in the future. Do be sure to always get to the park early in the morning or book your tour tickets ahead of time online.

Always check the Mammoth Cave NPS website for the latest and greatest details to hear of any closures or unique information regarding the park for your visit!
