Hiking Gorham Mountain Trail in Acadia National Park

Welcome to Gorham Mountain Trail at Acadia National Park where the elevation gain is totally freaking worth it!

This first hike of ours was located at the southeast end of Acadia National Park. It is moderate difficulty with a decent elevation gain and some uneven rocky terrain to manage. The trail has a 525 ft summit and has gorgeous panoramic views of the surrounding area!

Gorham Mountain Trail

DOG FRIENDLY

One of our favorite features of Acadia National Park (besides its tremendous beauty) is the fact a lot of their trails are dog friendly. In fact, they have a list of trails they don’t recommend you taking your dog on, but for the most part dogs are allowed on all of the trails.

GORGEOUS VIEWS

We didn’t get a ton of photos of the trail on the way up because we were totally distracted by all the views! Sometimes we forget to film or photograph when we are just in awe of nature. Gorham Mountain Trail has a plethora of views of the ocean since it is located so close in proximity to the south end of the island.

On a clear day you can see for miles upon miles of great ocean beauty.

FALSE PEAK, BUT KEEP GOING!

Although we did manage to be fooled by a false peak on the way up the mountain, we were not disappointed in all the views we saw up to that point! We were about ready to turn around but we decided to push on up the trail a tad bit more and were very happy that we did.

PLENTY OF AREAS TO SIT AND REST

Deanna and Blaze took advantage of a nice resting area near the top of Gorham Mountain (one of the pictures above). Still not sure if Blaze truly appreciates all the beauty that is surrounding him or if he is just glad to be outside sniffing everything dogly (new invented word) possible.

We hope all of these hikes spoil him and he gets to enjoy all of these trails as he is getting a bit older.

SUMMARY

There were so many fantastic views just off this trail head we really could not wait to get out there and explore more of Acadia National Park! This park has it all from ocean views, sandy beaches, mountainous terrain, amazing carriage roads, and so many places to explore!

We hope you all get a chance to take a trip out to Acadia National Park and explore it all yourselves. As I am writing this we are still here at a campground located on the northern end of the island and we are having a blast this week. Looking forward to showing you all some more of the adventures we have had!
