Hiking Bennett’s Pond State Park in Connecticut

by Shane

Howdy folks!

So this isn’t our normal every day adventure video/post.

In this particular video we discuss a few things.
1) We introduce our new mechanical family member – Betty Behemoth
2) We answer 11 questions that we were tagged in via Chickery’s Travels
3) And we also show you around a fantastic state park in Connecticut called Bennett’s Pond State Park!

Before I hop into our adventure around this park, I will first reference you to the park map –> Click Here <–

On this hike we venture back to the same parking lot that started us on our adventure through the first segment of the 21 mile long trail called Ive’s Trail. As per the usual as of late, we had pretty much the entire state park to ourselves. Folks around here must really wait for those temperatures to warm up quite a bit before hiking. 🙂

We ended up taking the green trail in a loop around this park…which was maybe about 2-3 miles in total length. If you initially head north on the trail, it is not challenging at all besides the fairly rocky terrain you encounter on the path. I recommend on just paying attention to where you are heading so you don’t accidentally twist an ankle on a loose rock.

It was a tad muddy as well on the day we headed here. In fact, when we visited this park nearly a year ago, the same sections were quite muddy off of the Ive’s Trail, so if you have a good pair of boots, this is a place to test them out.

There are also some areas of the trail that are slightly overgrown via the bushes off to the sides. Keep this in mind if you head through here during tick season as these would be perfect locations for them to hop on for a free ride down the trail…and back to your home.

After we passed both the purple and white trails, we arrived next to the beautiful area of the park where Bennett’s Pond resides. You can take the purple trail across the park for a short cut, but we stuck to the green trail to get a tad more exercise for the day.

If you hang off on the Ive’s trail, it will actually take you up and over those hills/small mountains you can see on the other side of the pond. That trail really does get strenuous in some portions, but this beginning section through Bennett’s Pond State Park is easy to moderate depending on your skill level and how in shape you are.

There were a ton of different species of birds flying around the area when we arrived at the pond. We also took our very first live YouTube video at the above location while enjoying the view and relaxing. It was really fun shooting this live video and think we will do some more in the future just to give you all a different vantage point of our hikes. And to see why we spend all the time and effort and editing video so we don’t sound like a bunch of babbling baboons. 🙂

On the way back south on the green trail, we did forget there were a few hills to climb up and over, so this is where the moderate difficulty comes to play in the trail. It isn’t a huge climb, but definitely adds a bit of more exercise getting up and over the hills back towards the parking area.
