Hiking Seth Low Pierrepont State Park Reserve in Connecticut

Thanks for hopping on over to our blog to check out our little adventure at Seth Low Pierrepont State Park Reserve in Connecticut. As little of a park this might be, it is certainly worth hitting up if you are in the area.

Speaking of which, this state park is located just southwest of Danbury, Connecticut (west side of Connecticut). It doesn’t seem to be very well known, although after you see our video/pictures of the overlook, you may want to put it on your to-do list. 🙂

LAKE NARANEKA

Oh, did I forget to mention it is neighboring a beautiful lake called Lake Naraneka? It might not be a huge lake, but Deanna and I have taken the kayaks out on this lake before and it is a fun paddle. We don’t have a video on that adventure, but hopefully come spring we can come back and show you around a bit.

Seth Low Pierrepont State Park 4HIDDEN GEM ALERT!

As we  started to make our way down the trail on this very windy late November day, it wasn’t hard to notice we were pretty much the only ones hiking around in the park that day.

If you are looking for a fairly quite hike to enjoy some time with nature, this is definitely a winner. We’ve been to this park when there are 9-10 cars in the parking area, but the park is big enough to spread the hikers out fairly evenly.

There aren’t a ton of trails to hike at this park, but the trails that they do have are pretty fun to hike down. As mentioned above, we first starting hiking along the lake which offered some beautiful views of the nearby hillsides.

We then hiked deeper into the wooded area, which was relieving to get away from some of the stronger wind on this particular adventure. If you check out the map above, we first took the white trail from the parking lot. Then headed east on the white/orange trail, and eventually scooted over to the blue trail that takes you up to the overlook.

ANNND VISTA

Really couldn’t have picked a better day to stand on the top of this hill and take a time-lapse of the clouds breezing by. This overlook is such a rewarding sight, but you really don’t have to work all too hard to get up to the top.

Granted we are comparing this to a lot of harder hikes, the blue trail is really only strenuous on a couple stretches…the rest of it is fairly moderate.

NATURE’S BENCH

There weren’t any benches at the top of the overlook…well, besides this tree that coincidentally seems awfully like a bench. It was a great place to enjoy and snack before we continued to hike north on the blue trail back to the white.

SUMMARY

Unfortunately Deanna forgot her camera on this particular hike, so we didn’t get as many pictures of the trail as we normally would. However, there were a couple more points along the blue and white trail that had some pretty cool overlooks as well. Once you get to the intersection of white and blue you are at the top of a decent sized hill. If you east down the phone line it has a decent view of the elevation you have just climbed.

If you head the same direction we did and head back down the white trail, do be careful as it is a tad bit steeper and slicker than at first glance. Hiking in the fall with all the leaves hiding loose rock and dirt can cause an unexpected slip. I always recommend wearing boots while hiking, although I must admit during the warmer months I stick to my trail running shoes.
