Lovers Leap State Park in Connecticut

Lovers Leap State Park is a fantastic place to go hiking in Connecticut if you want some pretty cool views without the strenuous hiking. There are some trails in the state park that could get your blood pumping for sure, but compared to a lot of trails in Connecticut I would rate this as easy to moderate hiking.

DOG FRIENDLY

Also it is very dog friendly, just bring your own bags to tidy up after your pups.

BEAUTIFUL HOUSATONIC RIVER

The Housatonic River is nice and calm through this section of Connecticut looking more like a lake rather than a river. That is because this section of the river actually is a lake called Lake Lillinonah. I would imagine it would be a calm and relaxing place to kayak if you found a place nearby to put in (we will have to look into this 🙂 ).

PARK HISTORY

Another great thing about this state park is the history. Deanna talks a bit about the history in the video itself, but here is a link to some more information if you want to read a bit more about it.

To summarize though, Lovers Leap does have meaning to the name. In an attempt to save a loved one, someone once leaped off a nearby cliff. The rescue attempt unfortunately was unsuccessful and thus the name of the park. Although I suppose it could have still been named “Lovers Leap” if the rescue attempt was successful…

AMAZING VISTAS

Anyways, the history doesn’t end just at that story. As you hike around the park you will find many ruins of old buildings that once stood among the grounds. One of the neater areas was a castle that once stood strong. You can still hike next to the chimney that is still standing tall despite its age.
