Hiking around Minnewaska Lake at Minnewaska State Park in New York

Time to go hiking around Minnewaska Lake at Minnewaska State Park! I saw some pretty epic pictures online so I knew there were some great views, but we didn’t really do our research as to which trails will get us to the views.

The first trail we checked out was Awosting Falls which was only a mile or less from our parking lot. Needless to say, we quickly realized that EVERY trail was going to have some sort of cool view at this park.

Minnewaska State Park ViewSUPER SWEET VIEW

It wasn’t long after we started hiking up the Sunset Carriage Trail to Lake Minnewaska that this view jumped out at us. There is just something about being able to see for miles and miles that takes my breath away.

This view wasn’t even from the top of the trail, more epic views were just around the corner.

After hiking up the trail just a bit further we arrived at Lake Minnewaska. The Lake Minnewaska/Red Trail is a 2 mile loop taking you all the away around the lake. I would say it is an easy to moderate hike with a few areas that gain a bit in elevation.

The trail itself is very well maintained and it even has a porta-potty near the opposite side of the picture above in case you can’t make it back around. 🙂 All the trails we hiked were dog friendly and Blaze enjoyed saying hello to everyone we came across.

Minnewaska South Side ViewGO ON A CLEAR DAY

Once making your way to the south side of the lake, there is a clearing through the trees where you can see the view above. Looking off into the distance you can spot small towns including the same valley where Deanna and I were married.

This is such a beautiful part of New York and I feel like it keeps getting better the further north you go.

When hiking towards the southeast corner of the lake there is a quick little side trail that can take you to this open area. Deanna got this picture of me (above) just after I filmed the panoramic views at that very spot.

Be sure to check out the video to see those views if you haven’t already. 🙂

AWESOME PHOTOS FROM DEANNA

Deanna is getting so amazing at taking pictures, I just had to share a small gallery of what she took on the cliffs. This view was epic and if it weren’t such a warm sunny day, we would have sat out there with Blaze for quite a while.

Well that, and we wanted to see as much of this area of New York as possible. 🙂 We only had a limited time in the state park and we had to keep moving along.

We hope you enjoyed our adventure hiking around Minnewaska Lake! There are so many beautiful views on this trail that we definitely recommend taking a stroll around it if you get the chance.

We didn’t get to hike nearly as many trails as we wanted to do to our limited time at the park, but we definitely plan to come back to this park in the future. Stay on the lookout for a 3rd part of this Minnewaska State Park Preserve series! The views will not disappoint!
